Only the Church...

Being a lover of freedom, when the revolution came in Germany, I looked to the universities to defend it, knowing that they had always boasted of their devotion to the cause of truth; but, no, the universities immediately were silenced. Then I looked to the great editors of the newspapers whose flaming editorials in days gone by had proclaimed their love of freedom; but they, like the universities, were silenced in a few short weeks…

Only the Church stood squarely across the path of Hitler’s campaign for suppressing truth. I never had any special interest in the Church before, but now I feel a great affection and admiration because the Church alone has had the courage and persistence to stand for intellectual truth and moral freedom. I am forced thus to confess that what I once despised I now praise unreservedly.

Thinking alike...

My "American Idol" and friend Dennis Prager, posted an article today which is related to my most recent post. Here's a link to it if you haven't caught it yet:

Why doesn't communism have as bad a name as Nazism?

If I were President of the United States...

Here's what my friend's niece wrote (She's younger than 10 years-old):

If I were President of the United States I would give some money to poor people. I would make everyone even and fair by giving everyone houses and food. I would give kids things they need and don't have. I would bring the soldiers back from the war. I would fight with words and not guns.

I think most people reading this would say, "Aww, that's so cute!" While they are the precious words of an innocent child, it disturbs me how much liberal indoctrination goes on in schools and at such a young age.

What is the point of an exercise like this? Is this really an appropriate question to ask a little child?

Needless to say, the more I learn about the educational system in America, the more I am becoming a fan of the homeschooling program. I used to be extremely judgmental about homeschooling until I realized the smartest and best critical thinkers I knew were home schooled. Interesting. And they weren't socially awkward either, contrary to popular mythology.

Although I wouldn't waste their time with an exercise like this, I would want my future students to write something more along the lines of preserving "liberty and justice for all." (Where have I heard those words before?!)

Communism, (material) egalitarianism, and pacificism...this is not what our children should be taught to value. Especially before they can begin to grasp these ideologies, properly employ their reason and learn the truth about how these systems have, in historical reality, wrought the worst injustice and violence--not to mention the quenching of the unquenchable human spirit.

Being Good for Goodness' Sake...

The American Humanist Association has ads out in D.C. that say "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake."

Here's more information from the Pew Forum on this:

http://pewforum.org/docs/?DocID=373

I find it fascinating that these people supposedly don't believe in God and yet they form a group to "not believe in God" together.

Hmmm...I also find it humorous that atheists keeping saying they don't believe in God and yet...keep bringing Him up!

A person who really, truly does not at all believe in God does not care to identify himself by his "non-belief."

I don't exactly know how to judge this absurdity on behalf of the AHA. Should I be outraged because they are offensive and intellectually dishonest? Or should I be delighted that such an extreme measure shows how much they really want to believe in Him?

On Hope...post-election

As I was telling my conservative and liberal friends after Obama's election I am not completely devastated. In truth, the night he was elected was dark but the morning after I felt a sense of renewal. Here's a quick list of why:

1. Thank God campaigning season is finally over!

2. It's time to start over. The G.O.P. is a mess, time to clean up.

3. We can't be blamed for what happens in the next four years.

4. Having a black president will hopefully put to rest all the absurd beliefs about America being a racist country.

5. Hopefully more conservatives will be inspired to get more actively involved in politics.

6. Maybe now the G.O.P. will finally invest in good PR and Marketing.

7. The time has come to resurrect true conservative values, not just spew out right-wing rhetoric.

8. A reminder that salvation does not come from the government. Culture is what informs politics. If we can work toward a more decent, moral society, politics will reflect that. The reverse does not work as some liberals believe. This is why liberals act like it's the end of the world when the G.O.P. is in power, but conservatives get over it quicker...

Thus, I completely agree with Dennis Prager:

The treatment of President George W. Bush by liberals has been despicable, undeserved and unprecedented. We who oppose Barack Obamas policies will, hopefully, act in accordance with conservative values of decency. Hence my simple announcement on the day after the election: I did not vote for him. I did not want him to be president. But as of January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will be my president.
